Message from our Community Schools Director

Welcome to the 2017 – 2018 school year! I am excited to support P.S. 124 in fulfilling its goals as a Community School. This year, we are launching FREE programs to serve you and your child. I am proud to announce that P.S. 124 has partnered with a leading arts-in-education organization, LeAP – Learning through an Expanded Arts Program, to provide every Kindergartener with a comprehensive set of art activities (i.e., drama, visual arts, music and creative movement) to improve students’ vocabulary, language, reading, writing and speaking skills. Additionally, all K-5 students will be offered a range of enrichment opportunities to cultivate their social-emotional and leadership skills. We expect these programs and opportunities to support students in achieving the aims of the Community School initiative.

For P.S.124’s afterschool programming, we will be working with LeAP to engage our students in exploring creative movement, improvisation, choreography, and performance. In addition to LeAP, CARE (Children Achieving Results Effectively) will provide students with martial art training, with a core concentration on life skills (e.g. respect, discipline and self-control).

If you are interested in learning more about PS 124’s Community School Initiative, please contact me. I am happy to share more details and answer your questions.

Sincerely, Quinton Lampkin
Community School Director, P.S. 124

Resources: To participate in free enrichment opportunities, we are asking parents/guardians to please complete the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Enrollment Form and have your child return to his/her assigned classroom teacher.
