Music

Music classes at P.S. 124 are designed as part of a sequential program of discovery and experience-based learning that is developmentally appropriate. This means there is a lot of physical, kinetic activity in early childhood with dance and movement, and percussion instruments and always a lot of singing. We continue singing in the first and second grades but also focus more on intellectual work around melody and rhythm, and music notation. Second, third, and fourth grade includes instrumental practice in recorder and guitar. All ages will encounter world music and western art music and will examine connections to their work in social studies, math, and literature.
