P.S. 124 currently has true dual-language Spanish/English classrooms in Kindergarten and 1st grade — and Spanish as a World Language in 2nd and 3rd grades.
Our school is committed to providing the next generation with appropriate tools to be economically and culturally competitive by building students’ literacy in both English and Spanish.
Overview of the Dual Language Program
The Dual Language Program at PS 124 uses the 50/50 half day model for instruction. The children who are Spanish-dominant and children who are English-dominant work together getting half-day instruction in English and half-day instruction in Spanish. The children in the DL classes are together all day, working cooperatively and serving as language role models for their peers.Throughout the program, both English- and Spanish-dominant learners are held to the same high academic standards and assessments.
